10 Things About Saipan

Since I often have Saipan, Northen Marianas Island in the forefront of my thinking lately, I wanted to share with you a quick list.

If you didn’t know….

  1. Saipan is 3/4 of the way from Hawaii to the Philippines
  2. The locals are called Chamorro not “Saipanese”
  3. Length? If you run from one side to the other…you ALMOST ran a 1/2 Marathon. It’s 12 miles long.
  4. Width? a little over than 8K :) . It’s 5.6 miles. A marathoner is in no need of a car here. Kidding :)
  5. Is a commonwealth of the US. Kinda like Virginia except much much smaller.
  6. Located just east of the island is the deepest part of the earth’s ocean (the Mariana Trench).
  7. Saipan has a delegate in the US House of Representative but is a non-voting member.
  8. Is 2.5 the size of Washington DC..
  9. Played a role in the WW2  “Island Hopping” strategy.
  10. Chamorros make one of the best Chicken Wraps I ever tasted (Chicken Kilaguen).
