Connecting While 8,000 Miles Apart

It has been 4 months to be exact since my husband left for his teaching job in the Marianas.  I gotta tell ya! The longer it is taking for us to be together again…the harder it gets.  I feel for military wives whose husband’s are away except they probably have it worse.  I don’t have to fear for my husband being in the field of gunfight or in the midst of bombings.

I’ve had some really down moments of self-pity and loneliness.  But the truth is, there are a lot of things for which I could be thankful.  First is that we are not permanently apart. I can look forward to the day when we will be together again.

As I was thinking of things to be thankful for, I thought about the different ways that he and I can still connect despite the  massive distance and the prolonged waiting.  Really.  What would I do if the only way was to mail letters? Or send pigeons?

I am thankful for these ways of connecting:

Here he is making me smile with his reindeer face.  I was having a down moment missing him so much.

He made me smile.

And finally, just this Christmas vacation, these teachers are able to play some video games (my hubby’s “nothing box”).

XBOX Live

Because of  Christmas vacation, these Islander teachers we were able to connect  Jacksonville to Saipan. We were all soldiers geared with massive guns (our characters look like they eat steroids for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and merienda). We  fight to save the world from a great variety of hideous looking monsters! Yep this is my husband’s “nothing box”).

We had a blast. It felt like we were all in the same room because we were able to talk with one another as we played the video game.

I am quite amazed and at the same time so thankful for  these products of technology. It allows my Sweety and I to connect and still build memories despite of the torture-some distance.
